A little bit about us

At The Women Returning to Work Programme, our dedicated team will work closely with you to help you achieve your objectives.  Our ethos is simply to put you first!  We aim to address your concerns and issues, and to support you on your journey back to work.

Theresa, Founder

13514335_10157136950235529_1771461282_nI developed and launched The Women Returning to Work Programme around 20 years ago. Since then, I have mentored thousands of women on their journey back to the workplace.  An Edinburgh University business graduate, I have previously worked as a training manager in public, private and voluntary sectors. As such, I draw upon first-hand knowledge of training and recruitment processes across all sectors.

I have a fabulous job: I work with a committed team who all thrive on helping women make the transition from home to work.  Personally, I get huge satisfaction preparing women for interviews and turning nerves into a polished performance. My approach is to listen and understand each person’s needs, demonstrate care, commitment and support to help find the best fit and to enable a successful return to work.  I have been promoting the issue of women in the workplace for many years and I am delighted that this is now being discussed and debated more widely.  I will continue to engage with the issues associated with gender in the workplace and have a growing interest in how we, as a society, help lone parents return to work.

On a personal note, I am a mother of 3, and love spending time with my family. I am a keen traveler, and enjoy visiting new places, although for me nothing beats the Italian dolce vita

Ai Wen, Trainer

IMG_4102I joined the team in 2016 and am thoroughly enjoying every minute.  A Law graduate, I started my working life as a commercial litigator in a busy city firm.  Whilst on a career break to start a family, I developed my skills in academic editing and coaching English as a second language.  I have found it extremely rewarding to see people equipped with effective communication skills to succeed in their endeavours.

Working for the Programme has allowed me to combine my skills and experience to help women return to work. Being a woman returner myself, I very much identify with the challenges and obstacles faced when trying to relaunch your career or simply to find a new job that fits with a busy life.  Having worked in both local and international settings, it is a real privilege to engage with women from all walks of life, helping them to find solutions, match their experience to jobs and working with them in preparation for interviews.  I am particularly passionate about flexible working and would like to see more employers embrace this to tap into a highly skilled workforce that is Women Returning to Work!

Lesley, Trainer

I have been tutoring IT for many years and have had the privilege to work with thousands of women returners – many of whom are lone parents who need to sharpen up their IT skills to return to work.  I have designed and delivered training and am comfortable teaching all aspects of office-based technology. I have lived and worked in Europe, USA, and more recently the Middle East.  Now relocated in Edinburgh, I am delighted to again be working with The Women Returning to Work Programme.

Clients tell me I deliver great teaching in a relaxed way which is guaranteed to be fun. I am very happy to take that one!

IMG_5955I have for many years worked as a college lecturer, teaching on all aspects of the service industry. With my background, I deliver training and development for women who are looking to return to the hospitality industry, for roles including customer service and management.  I work extensively with awarding bodies.  I am a qualified SQA and REHIS tutor and assessor.  I very much enjoy seeing trainees achieve their potential and successfully progress within their chosen career.

I like to think I can build a good working rapport with our clients, always taking on board their needs and aspirations.

Renzo, IT Support

13327383_10157033086360529_2865542870620626117_nI have an undergraduate degree in Fine Art and a Masters in Design Informatics both from the University of Edinburgh.  My role within the team is centred around web management and social media – a growing part of the business. My work is not however solely focused on promoting the business, it also includes coaching the team to ensure they are up to date with digital issues that returners to the workplace will face.

Away from work I am a keen cocktail-maker, and love trying out new recipes on my family and friends. I love travelling and have spent time living in both Barcelona and Australia, although it is nice to be back in bonnie Scotland!
